Five for Friday!

With extra planning time I've almost finished my "African American Heroes - Black History Month ELA Activity Pack."

Final step: Picking a cover design.
Which cover do you like better?

I was chosen Teacher of the Month for Carolina Navigators Relationships Around the World program this month!!

Number 3: We've had 3 Snow days this week!

Tuesday I was able to attend an AMAZING conference hosted by the blog author Lori Elliott of Lori's Latest Links! My favorite app she shared is called Educreations!!!!! I cannot wait to start using this in my classroom. It's going to completely change how my students show me they understand content. It's a FREE app and works on ipads, ipods, and computers!  Above is what the app looks like and it's uses area limitless! and this app will help simplify that!

The second app that I loved was instaGrok!  It helps pull research information for students. Finding appropriate information is almost always a struggle for my kiddos and this will be a big help.

Love is in the Air!

I'm missing my kiddos today as we are on our 2nd snow day this week and tomorrow has already been cancelled. Being a northern girl born and raised I'm continually amused at the difference in qualifications for "snow" days.  Check out the meme at the bottom (ignore the poor grammar) -sooo funny! :)

I'm looking forward to sharing all their Valentine gifts with them come Monday though! Today's post is all about appreciating our profession...there's so much that makes my heart "melt" about teaching. Here's just a few reasons:

* The little hugs in the morning, throughout the day, and after school!
*Their giggles and laughter, love having fun w.them
*The HILARIOUS things that they say! I keep a book in my desk of all those silly moments.
* Watching their personalities grow
*Seeing that "accomplished" feeling in their eyes when they exceed their expectations!
*Of course the "ah-ah moments!"
*Learning from THEM! I have grown so much as a person since starting my journey as a teacher.
*Supporting them :) I work at a school where the students don't always have someone outside of school whose constantly in their corner backing them up. I love that my kiddos know whether it's their art fair, holiday race, choir concert, etc. that I'll be there to cheer them on.  Here's one of my sweets and I doing a 5k together.

*SNOW DAYS...going on 6 which is a 1st in my life, but enjoying every one!
*Collaborating with my team -- couldn't ask for a better group of educators! It's easy to get bogged down but they're ALWAYS laughing, joking, and keeping the focus on what's important.
*Sweet notes that my little ones write (making all those tough days worth it!)

What makes your heart "melt" about being a teacher?

(Here's the meme as promised )

Random Acts of Kindness Secret Agent Style!

   M I S S I O N  P O S S I B L E

What better time to post about spreading kindness and love than Valentines! This random acts of kindness activity is a HUGE hit in my room every year. It's transforms students into secret agents (of kindness)!

Students watch this PHENONMENAL video about spreading kindness and then are challenged to become secret agents. As an agent their job is to perform random acts of kindness in our classroom without getting caught. They love sneaking around doing kind activities, and having others do nice things for them! Here are some pictures of our MISSION POSSIBLE envelopes, the students opening them, finding their special pens, and reading their secret missions...messages will not self destruct ;)

The first time I introduce this activity I have it last 1 week. After that our class will do it once a quarter :) I've had other teachers use the activity and have it last the entire month of February/November/December. It's easily adaptable and works wonders on building my classroom community each time. Seeing the students engaged and BEGGING to help each other brightens my day like few things do! New friendships are made and students see each other in a different light.

Students find their own cozy space to read their debriefings!

This is the video I introduce the activity with - it sends such a strong message!
(Teacher Suggestion: I always embed videos onto our classroom website so there's no chance of inappropriate advertisements!)
